This Little Piggy

A nano -second could be defined as the time in between our pig sty being finished and My Loving Spouse calling the pig breeder to arrange for the pick up of our piglets.

The pig place was something else with large pigs happy in their wallow.pigpc6The pig breeder is a stay at home mom, who raises pigs to ‘stay at home’.  Her delightful little girls soon joined in on our pig viewing, complete with requests to try out our cameras to which we of course complied.  They did manage to click one or two good ones of us without their finger covering the viewer.pigpc5Then it was time to load up our two little squealing Duroc 8 week old wiener piglets.  They are red piglets the girl being much bigger than the boy, so much so that there were remarks about what a good breeder she would make…ya, I don’t think so.pigpc2Margaret Thatcher is on the right and a bit redder than Winston Churchill on the left…or as we are calling them Maggie and Winnie.  They check out their new sty.pigpc1The funniest bit of all were our cattle!  They couldn’t believe their eyes!  What were these little snorty things!  They literally stood at the fence and stared at them.pigpc4My Loving Spouse is very happy now that the little pigs are here and just for the record, when/if they get out…they are his pigs.

Love your blog, as always Ellen! We had pigs on our farm occasionally when I was growing up and I have to admit, baby piglets are pretty cute. After that, I’m not so sure, but my dad really enjoyed raising them and said they were the smartest of all animals. I think you heard the rest of the story . . . “If pigs won’t eat rhubarb then it’s not fit for human consumption!” he would say. Needless to say, we didn’t have rhubarb much growing up, even though my mom loved it.

I have two other pig-related stories that I will have to share with you sometime – probably social media is not the appropriate venue. Haha Have fun with Maggie and Winnie! Hope to see you soon!

Can’t wait to hear in person some of your pig stories!

Last night as Ellen was sitting comfortably on the couch, I casually said” if the pig pen is so secure why is the a piglett walking down the driveway?”
She was off the couch as if she had been sting by a bee telling me “they’re your pigs, they’re your pigs”. There were no pigs walking down the driveway of course, but the reaction was great, she was ready to leap onto her fourwheeler and go on a roundup!

Great picture of you two! And the cows and pigs! Are you going to eat the pigs eventually? ( I hope not!) They are too cute!!

Well, Our Friend the Farmer says we’ll probably end up with the oldest pigs in the valley, but yes, the plan is to eat them…oh that sounds harsh…our plan is to raise them until they go away….and come back in a different way…

    They look quite lovely!

I once had a couple of piglets who were rejected by their Mum so I called them ‘Fridge & Freezer’ – much to the horror of the kids!
