Date Night

Friday night = date night…right?  If that is true, then since moving here, for most of our dates, we go to Lowes’s.  We plan a ‘quick’ trip to Lowes’, except that is a lie, because there are no quick trips to Lowe’s.  We are optimists so we always think they will be quick, but  truly the only ones we are fooling is ourselves.  For one thing, Lowe’s is 40 minutes away and we go after work…you do the math…it is not quick…ever.

Lowe’s on this Friday night, was less ‘quick’ than normal.  We made it more eventful by taking Dixie (our almost 3 year-old quarter horse) on her first long trailer ride and then traumatizing her a bit more by dropping her off at our trusted farrier where she will spend the next month getting ‘schooled’ and broken to be ridden.

After one wrong turn and a picturesque albeit out-of-the-way detour, we did manage to make it to Lowe’s before they closed, which was more important than having dinner.  We really are not starting any new projects.  We have so many going currently that we’ll be busy for a long time, just finishing off the ones that we’ve begun.  We were collecting the wood needed to finish off the vegetable garden fencing, buying a lot of 1×6 boards which My Loving Spouse then rips (wood cutting term) and cuts in to 1×3 pickets which is a LOT cheaper than buying the pre-fab pickets.

The back fence (wind-break) of the vegetable garden had been built last Spring with a lot of help from the Number Ones.  Last year we used additional wire fencing to keep the chickens out of the garden, planning on finishing it off this Spring.

Even though it was practically past our bed-time upon check out at Lowe’s, we were in a great mood…realizing that this time next year we’d not be back at Lowe’s on Friday night to finish the Vegetable garden fence as it would be D-O-N-E and checked off the list!

We might still be back at Lowe’s for something else, but I am sure it will be just a ‘quick trip’.
