Picky Eaters

It seems that I have a farm filled with picky eaters.  The only exception, of course are our black labs who eat any and everything and are continually reprimanded for eating chicken droppings, is it any wonder My Loving Spouse does not like to be licked by those dogs.dogspc1The Grand Dogs are picky eaters (although they too like chicken droppings) and eat a special (not the kind on sale) kind of dog food.  They have to be fed separate from the black labs who inhale their food and would be happy to inhale the Grand Dogs food too.

The horses have been upgraded from hay-hay to alfalfa-hay.  Alfalfa has more protein in it and I’m guess it tastes better too as that is their preference.  Beau has been upgraded once more and is being fed beet pulp.  He did not winter well, unlike we humans who don’t winter ‘well’ and gain weight, Beau has lost too much weight and needs a supplement.  The beet pulp must be soaked first as it expands when wet and we don’t want it expanding in Beau’s gut.  We have a system to clean out the bucket we soak the beet pulp in.horsepc1
horsepc2Bob is also a picky eater.  He prefers his alfalfa with leaves on it.  Once he has eaten all the leafed alfalfa he starts informing us that he’d like some more.  He does not like to eat what we call the alfalfa ‘sticks’, preferring to share these with the horses.  He moos at us whenever he sees us and is just down to ‘sticks’.bobpc1-2015The barn cats have one job, which is to keep the rodent population down around here.  (They also seem to think their second job is to make sure my car has a large quantity of paw prints on it daily).  The Barn Cats have been doing a fairly good job of keeping the rodent situation fairly well in hand…until lately.  Now it could be the new Ginger cat, who has decided to call this place home…but someone…some CAT is not finishing their meals…twice this week they’ve left the head of something on the back mat for me to find.  Excuse me Barn Cats I do not do dead things…finish your own darn meal!catspc1

The cats are showing their love. But I agree about not doing dead thinks. What a way to start your day! Good “System” to clean out the beet pulp. Almost exonerates the nasty habit of eating chicken poo….

She is quite helpful… Riley is in charge of ‘dead’ things… Thank goodness!
