Gifts in the Country

Today is Number One Son’s birthday.

Since we moved to the country, our gift giving is just…. different.  Oh, we still tell each other we are getting them ‘books and clothes‘ and sometimes, we even do, but still nothing could have prepared me for this change.

Number One Son gave My Loving Spouse the best gift he could have asked for on his birthday a few weeks ago.  When he opened the card, his eyes lit up and his smile was wide…Number One had completed his hunter safety course….yes, my city boy was ready for bird season and prepared to bring home the Christmas goose with My Loving Spouse.

I didn’t know I’d be so happy for them both, but I am and if you do not think this is a big change, well then you’d be wrong.

We couldn’t give Number One’s present to him in person, so we dressed up for his gift presentation, oh yes, clothes again and a little something else for his birthday..coreypicm

I love the “wrapping paper” for Number One’s gift. You are always so creative! Glad Your Loving Spouse is right on board!

Does he own his own shotgun yet? This is almost a prerequisite for an orange shirt.

The ability to go hunting is (in my oppinion) one of God’s gifts to us, for thousands of years the men went hunting, our families depended on it. Today it is differant, mostly we are sent hunting by our wives to Vons, Safeway, Fred Meyers etc. There is however a wonderful bonding oppertunity when a Father goes out with a son to hunt proper, to pass on the experiance that he has gained over the years. I expect that one day Corey will say to Jonah “Grandpa and I used to hunt this same area and you have to be VERY quiet coming around this next bend as the ducks usually hang out there”. With luck Jonah will be saying the same sort of thing to his son, as my Father and Grandfather said to me, there is a very rich and old tradition that I am blessed to be a part of.

Happy Birthday, Corey! You’ll look just as good in your orange shirt as the two crazy people in these pictures. 🙂
